A WWII story that touches everyone hearts

When I was little, my core dream was to join the army and serve my country. In 2005, we(family) met with WWII veteran on 4th of July. As we were enjoying the fireworks. I deliberately ask him to tell an story from that time.

Let us listen it, in his own words. We were leading the battalion 221, near the south post that was occupied by the Nazis. We were instructed to capture the post, as it disturb the direct line of communication with the soldiers serving on Spain & France border. We only had 7 tanks and 1 frigates. As soon as, we arrived at the beach, enemy opened the fire. We were not able to retaliate, due to less ground support.

Our commander spotted the weak spot and hit 3 canons. It allow us to go on land. Now the real play started, At last they won, take us their prisoners. They killed 17 of my fellows and only 2 were left (Me and our commander). I still remember, they were talking about killing us in 3 hours.

Suddenly, everyone left the posts, there was no Nazi solider present. After 2 days, French army arrived and took us out. On asking, they told we have won the war.

As the old guy was telling the story, his eyes were soaking. He told he is the only person alive among was him. After the war, he served in military bases in Oregon as Major and later promoted to Colonel and retired in 1979.
